St. Croix, June 1, 2026 – Let’s be honest—getting to St. Croix from the East Coast has always felt like a minor logistics exam.
If you’ve ever tried to get to Christiansted from the Tri-State area, you know the drill: you either fly into St. Thomas and pray the ferry is running on time, or you kill three hours in a San Juan terminal waiting for a puddle jumper. It’s a mess.
But United Airlines is finally leaning into the obvious. Starting October 31, 2026, they are launching a nonstop service from Newark (EWR) to St. Croix (STX). One flight. No layovers. No headache.
The announcement confirms that United will be the only airline offering a direct link to the New York City market from St. Croix. They’re rolling out a Boeing 737-700 for the job, which sports 126 seats.
If you’re feeling fancy, twelve of those are in business class—though, frankly, the real luxury here is just not having to see the inside of a connecting terminal.
| ROUTE | DATE | DEPARTURE TIME | ARRIVAL TIME | AIRCRAFT |
| EWR-STX | Oct 31, 2026 | 9:03 | 13:20 | Boeing 737-700 |
| STX-EWR | Oct 31, 2026 | 14:25 | 18:58 | Boeing 737-700 |

The schedule is strictly a Saturday affair, which tells you exactly who they’re aiming for: the week-long vacationers and the “I need to get to my villa” crowd.
Look, United is clearly playing a game of Caribbean chess. With this addition, they’ll serve 23 different destinations in the region from Newark alone. That’s more than any other carrier. It’s a aggressive play for dominance, essentially turning Newark into a tropical hub for the Northeast.
For travelers, it means the U.S. Virgin Islands just got a lot more accessible—and for those of us who value our time, that’s a win.
Commissioner Jennifer Matarangas-King of the U.S. Virgin Islands Department of Tourism called this a “major milestone,” and as a St. Croix native, she’s not exaggerating.

Direct connectivity to the New York market is transformative for a local economy that’s often lived in the shadow of the more easily reached St. Thomas. It’s about time “The Big Island” got a little respect from the major carriers.
For the uninitiated, St. Croix is the largest of the U.S. Virgin Islands, sitting about 40 miles south of its siblings, St. Thomas and St. John.
While the others get the cruise ship crowds, St. Croix has always been the more laid-back, “foodie” island with its European architecture and incredible dive spots.
United’s move essentially bridges that 40-mile gap for New Yorkers who want the Caribbean without the chaos.
The flights are already populating on the United app and website.
If you’re planning to be one of the first on that October 31st bird, you might want to move fast—Saturdays in the winter are a hot commodity in this neck of the woods.
The takeaway? Saturday just became the most important day of the week for USVI tourism.
