PLANO, July 13, 2026 — Let’s be real: Texas is the undisputed heavyweight champion of the barbecue world. You don’t just waltz into the DFW metroplex with a smoker and expect to survive without bringing something distinct to the table.
But that’s exactly what Ono Hawaiian BBQ is betting on.
The California-based fast-casual staple—which has spent two decades building a massive following across the West Coast—is officially touching down in the Lone Star State. On July 24, they’ll open their doors at 8724 Preston Rd. in Plano.
It’s their first-ever Texas location, and frankly, it’s a bold play to see if the “aloha spirit” can compete with the deep-seated traditions of Texas-style brisket and ribs.

The Menu Breakdown: For the uninitiated, Ono isn’t trying to replicate your local smokehouse. They’re leaning hard into the island-inspired plate lunch format. Expect the essentials:
- The Classics: BBQ Chicken, BBQ Beef, and those crispy Chicken Katsu cuts.
- The Sides: Two scoops of rice and the mandatory mac salad—it’s non-negotiable.
- Island Staples: Spam Musubi for those who know, and Kalbi Short Ribs for those who want to level up.
“Texas has long been a market we’re excited about,” said Joshua Liang, Co-Founder and CEO. That’s corporate speak, sure, but looking at their growth trajectory—over 130 locations in California and Arizona—it’s clear they aren’t just testing the waters; they’re trying to build a new regional stronghold.
If you’re planning to swing by the grand opening, there’s a bit of extra incentive.
They’re running a BOGO deal all day and, in a move that feels slightly surreal for a fast-casual launch, they’re giving away a trip to Hawaii, complete with Cirque du Soleil tickets and a stay at the OUTRIGGER Waikīkī Beachcomber.
Whether they can truly disrupt the Texas BBQ landscape remains to be seen. But hey, if you’re tired of the same old drive-thru rotation, a bit of variety in the DFW food scene probably won’t hurt.
