Lufthansa Group Hangar One Visitor Center Opens at Frankfurt Airport on August 1

Spanning 6,000 square meters, the massive interactive space showcases historic aircraft like the Ju 52 and the iconic Lockheed Super Star.

FRANKFURT, Germany, July 24, 2026 — Let’s be real for a second: aviation exhibits can easily slip into sterile, dusty collections of old propellers that only interest hardcore avgeeks. Lufthansa is clearly trying to buck that trend with its latest project, and honestly, the sheer scale of it might actually pull it off.

Frankfurt, Germany — The airline giant has officially announced that the new Lufthansa Group Hangar One visitor and conference center at Frankfurt Airport is opening its doors to the public on August 1.

Located right off the busy A3 highway at Building 367 (Airportring), this massive 6,000-square-meter facility is stepping up as both a historical museum and a high-tech corporate event hub. It is a dual-purpose space, which is a smart move, though we will have to see if the corporate meeting crowds clash with the casual tourists trying to buy souvenir flight jackets.

Regular operating hours are set for Thursdays and Fridays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

If you are planning a trip, adult tickets cost a reasonable eight euros and must be secured via the official Hangar One ticket shop. Keep in mind that hours are subject to change if someone books the entire place out for a private gala, so always check the site before you make the trek to the airport.

The exhibition itself was developed alongside the creative minds at Atelier Brückner, and it promises a pretty deep dive into a century of flight. Refreshingly, the curators aren’t just glossing over the uncomfortable bits of their corporate legacy.

The display actively addresses Lufthansa’s role and complicity during the National Socialist era—a dark chapter that many corporate archives historically preferred to bury in the basement.

Visitors can access deeper layers of these historical narratives via smartphone-scanned QR codes, while a simplified audio guide keeps kids engaged without dragging them through overly dry corporate timelines.

At the center of the massive hangar floor sit two legendary, beautifully restored aircraft that define different eras of German aviation:

  • The Junkers Ju 52 (D-AQUI): A legendary workhorse from the pioneering years of the original airline, which will open its cabin doors for special, exclusive events.
  • The Lockheed Super Star (D-ALAN): A sleek symbol of post-war rebuilding and mid-century luxury. By the end of this year, visitors will be allowed to walk right through its restored interior.

Opening day on August 1 comes with some added perks to justify the trip, assuming you snagged an advanced ticket. There will be discounts at the Worldshop, photo ops with the Lufthansa mascot Lu, and limited slots to take the controls of a flight simulator built inside an actual Diamond DA42 training cockpit.

They are also screening the new anniversary documentary, We are the Journey, which won’t hit long-haul in-flight screens until September 1.

For those looking to host their own gatherings, the venue features seven high-end meeting rooms and diverse event spaces. By 2027, you will even be able to rent out the onboard bar inside the Super Star for private parties, which, frankly, sounds like the ultimate retro flex.

Whether Hangar One can maintain its raw historical honesty over decades of glossy corporate PR remains to be seen, but for now, it’s easily the most compelling eight-euro ticket in Frankfurt.
