Hungry Howie’s Enlists DoorDash to Overhaul App and Loyalty Program

MADISON HEIGHTS, Mich. — If you’ve been paying attention to the way we order pizza lately, you’ve probably noticed that the line between “ordering from the restaurant” and “ordering from a delivery app” is getting blurry.

Today, Hungry Howie’s just blurred it even more.

The 50-year-old pizza chain, best known for their Flavored Crust®, is officially handing over the keys to their digital kingdom to DoorDash. This isn’t just about getting an extra driver for a busy Friday night; it’s an enterprise-level overhaul.

They’re rebuilding their website, their native app, and their entire loyalty ecosystem using the DoorDash Commerce Platform.

What’s actually changing for the customer? Frankly, for now, it’s mostly under the hood—but the long-term impact is significant.

• Unified Tech: The days of managing disparate systems for feedback and reviews are over. A new “Guest Experience Management” (GEM) system will centralize reviews from Google, DoorDash, and their own app.
• Flexible Rewards: By 2027, they’re launching a “bankable” points system. Think of it less as “buy 10 pizzas, get one free” and more like a flexible currency you can spend how you want.
• Speed: The goal is a smoother checkout flow. Because let’s be honest, if it takes more than 30 seconds to order a pizza, most of us just give up and go to the competitor.

“We’re strategically partnering with DoorDash because they offer more than just delivery,” said CEO Steve Jackson.

And he’s not wrong. For a brand with nearly 500 stores, keeping a proprietary app updated while managing third-party marketplaces is an IT nightmare.

By offloading the backend to DoorDash, they’re essentially buying their way out of a decade of technical debt.

The rollout is starting today in select markets, with a full transition expected by Q2 2027. It’s a massive gamble—betting your entire digital future on a partner who is also a competitor in the marketplace space.

But in the current landscape, it’s probably the only way to keep up with the Goliaths of the industry.
