London, July 21, 2026 — Chelsea’s youth academy at Cobham is famously a goldmine, even if the club’s first-team hierarchy sometimes ignores it to buy flashy, expensive toys from abroad.
But locking down Sol Gordon until at least 2029 is a clear signal they know exactly what they have in the teenage winger. The kid is a proper “one of our own” story, having climbed all the way up from the Under-8 development center to become one of the most prolific attackers in the English youth system.
The progression here is wild. During the 2023/24 season, while still just a schoolboy, Gordon casually racked up 19 goals and seven assists across the Under-16 and Under-17 age groups.
He didn’t just pad his stats, either—he helped the U16s lift the National Trophy and played a major role in the U17 Premier League Cup triumph.
By the time he turned 17 in November 2024, he signed his first professional contract and immediately validated it by finishing as the U18s’ leading goalscorer with 15 goals.

According to the official announcement, this new long-term deal is a reward for his relentless momentum. He kicked off the 2025/26 campaign with a brutal hat-trick against Sheffield United in the U18 Premier League Cup, stepped up to the U19s to score in a 5-0 UEFA Youth League thrashing of Qarabag, and put the exclamation point on his year by scoring Chelsea’s fourth goal in their 5-1 demolition of Manchester City in the U18 Premier League National Final.
Sol Gordon: The Academy Milestones
- The Early Years: Joined Chelsea’s development center at the Under-8 level, working through every single rank.
- The Schoolboy Breakthrough: 26 goal involvements (19 goals, 7 assists) in a single season before even signing a pro deal.
- Big-Stage Temperament: Key goals in the U18 Premier League National Final against Manchester City and the UEFA Youth League.
- The Reward: A brand-new contract extension keeping him in Blue until at least 2029.
Chelsea has a history of stockpiling incredibly talented young players only to send them out on endless loans to the nether regions of European football.
While this new deal certainly protects Gordon’s market value, his sheer goalscoring output suggests he might actually have the tools to force his way into first-team training sessions much sooner than the skeptics expect.
Let’s hope he gets an actual, honest pathway to show Stamford Bridge what he can do.
