BILLUND, DENMARK — Gillian Anderson back in a trench coat, investigating paranormal anomalies? Yes, please. But this time, the anomaly is made of plastic bricks.
According to the official announcement from the LEGO Group, they are teaming up with Disney Entertainment and Anderson herself to unleash the highly anticipated LEGO Ideas The X-Files (21369) set.
It’s a gorgeous, slightly eerie 1,478-piece package aimed squarely at those of us who spent our Friday nights in the ’90s whispering about government conspiracies and alien abductions.

The core of the build is Fox Mulder’s infamously cluttered basement office, and frankly, the designers did not skimp on the details.
We’re talking about the iconic “I Want to Believe” poster, tiny pencils stuck in the ceiling tiles, a scattering of sunflower seeds, and the legendary “The Truth is Out There” tile. But they didn’t stop at the office.
The set also features a separate forest diorama complete with a hovering UFO mounted on a transparent stand to give the illusion of flight.
It’s exactly the kind of tactile storytelling that makes the LEGO Ideas platform—a brilliant crowdsourcing sandbox where fan creations actually get turned into real-world shelves—so uniquely successful.

This entire project started in the brain of Brisbane-based fan designer Brent Waller (known online as wetwired), who originally mocked up the office back in 2014.
After hitting the necessary 10,000 votes on the platform and surviving LEGO’s strict review process, his dream is finally hitting store shelves on August 4, 2026 (or August 1 if you have a LEGO Insiders account).
The set will retail for £179.99 / €199.99 / $199.99, which is admittedly steep, but considering it comes with eight custom minifigures, it’s a pill most collectors will happily swallow.
- The Cast: Includes Mulder, Scully, Walter Skinner, Mr. X, Alex Krycek, Carl Busch, the terrifying Flukeman, and a classic grey alien.
- The Sweetener: Buying between August 1 and 10 nabs you a free “Scully’s Lab” (40896) diorama, recreating her FBI Academy workspace.
- The Interactive Elements: The forest scene and the office can be split up, allowing for a dual-display setup on your shelf.
Frankly, the cleverest part of this whole rollout is the promotional campaign. They got Gillian Anderson herself to star in a cinematic mini-film, playing a meta-version of Scully investigating the brick-built mystery. It’s a wonderful bit of fanservice that bridges the gap between old-school TV fandom and modern toy culture.
The LEGO Group—which has been turning Danish plastic into global cultural currency since Ole Kirk Kristiansen founded it in Billund back in 1932—knows exactly how to pull the nostalgia lever without making it feel cheap.
In an era where modern television often feels over-sanitized and focus-grouped to death, looking back at the gritty, shadows-and-paranoia vibes of The X-Files feels incredibly refreshing. If this set sells as well as I think it will, expect LEGO to dig even deeper into the ’90s vault.
Personally, I’m holding out hope for a Twin Peaks Red Room set next, but until then, building Mulder’s basement while rewatching season three will do just fine.
