Giza, Egypt — Let’s be completely real: game development is a brutal, exhausting marathon. Most games that sit in Steam’s Early Access limbo for more than a couple of years end up quietly abandoned or released as half-baked cash grabs.
But Egyptian indie outfit Bubble Head Games actually stuck the landing.
Originally launched in Early Access way back in the chaotic spring of 2020, their award-winning rhythm bullet hell hybrid, Beats of Fury, has officially released its 1.0 version today, June 13, 2026. And honestly? It is an absolute, high-octane trip.
The game is a frantic mashup of two of the most anxiety-inducing genres—at least, in my opinion, they are. You don’t just dodge glowing neon circles while tapping your foot; the projectiles themselves are mathematically tied to the beat of the music. If the bass drops, the screen explodes with lasers.
The campaign features a weird, high-concept story about a world where the universal rhythm (called “the Pulse”) is shattered, leaving you as the only entity still in sync. You’ll have to fight your way across 12 handcrafted stages ranging from industrial techno to screaming post-rock and heavy metal.

But let’s talk about the real reason people are going to play this: the custom level generator. Handcrafted stages are nice, but the game has a built-in procedural engine that lets you import local music files or literally paste a YouTube URL directly into the system, which is just crazy when you think about it.
The algorithm analyzes the audio track—parsing the BPM, frequency spikes, and structural shifts—and spits out a completely unique, playable bullet-hell stage. Want to dodge bullet patterns set to a Beethoven symphony, a 2000s pop hit, or some obscure black metal track? You can. Even better, you can package these custom gauntlets and share them with the wider community.
| Game Mode | Features | Best Suited For |
|---|---|---|
| Story Campaign | 12+ handcrafted levels, custom narrative, progressive difficulty | Lore fans and genre newcomers |
| MIX IT Mode | Endless survival gameplay with global leaderboards | High-score hunters and arcade purists |
| Custom Stage Gen | Import local files or paste direct YouTube URLs | Creative players and music junkies |
This isn’t some raw, unpolished garage project. The game has already scooped up some serious hardware during its development cycle, including the Best Audio Game Award at Casual Connect Europe and the Audience Choice Award at Run Double Jump Egypt.
It’s the third commercial release from Cairo-based Bubble Head Games, a diverse indie team with artists and designers collaborating from all over the world.
They spent six years taking feedback from their Early Access players to balance the difficulty, squash the bugs, and expand the game’s most ambitious features.
Wisely, the developers have included heavy accessibility options.
Bullet hells are notorious for triggering optical migraines, so they’ve built in comprehensive visual-effect sliders for photosensitive players, alongside color-blind modes and multiple control schemes (controller, keyboard, or mouse-and-keyboard).
If you’ve been looking for something that challenges both your motor skills and your music taste, Beats of Fury is a highly compelling choice. It’s proof that patience pays off in the indie scene.
Go check out the official release page on Steam or pop into their Discord to trade custom level links. Just make sure you turn down the visual effects before loading up a heavy metal track—your retinas will thank you.
