Beverly Hills Film Festival Opens Submissions for 2027 After Record-Breaking Turnout

LOS ANGELES, CA — Let us be completely honest about this: getting an independent movie made in this climate is an absolute nightmare. But getting that movie actually seen by people who can write real distribution checks? That is practically impossible.

While major Hollywood studios keep pouring hundreds of millions of dollars into tired franchises and endless sequels, the real creative energy is quietly shifting back to the festival circuit. And if you are an indie director looking for actual eyes on your project, the target on your radar just got locked in.

The Beverly Hills Film Festival (BHFF) has officially opened up its submissions portal for its upcoming 27th edition, scheduled to run from April 11 to April 18, 2027.

This call for entries comes right on the heels of a massive, record-breaking 2026 run that drew over 58,000 attendees to iconic venues like the TCL Chinese Theatres and the Beverly Hilton.

We are talking about 450 films from more than 70 countries screened over an eight-day stretch. Frankly, those are the kind of numbers that make a lot of mid-tier theatrical releases look incredibly small by comparison.

According to the recently published announcement, the festival is not just a place where filmmakers go to pat themselves on the back. It is increasingly operating as a direct pipeline to the broader entertainment industry.

Festival Founder and President Nino Simone pointed out that the massive appetite for global storytelling in 2026 has set a very high bar for the 2027 lineup. But more than just talking a big game, the festival’s alumni track record shows that real business is actually getting done here:

  • Curry Barker: Screened his short film Contemplation at the festival in 2021, and has since gone on to secure breakout Hollywood success with his hit feature Obsession.
  • I’m Only Blind: Achieved Oscar-qualifying status and secured a comprehensive global distribution deal following its festival run.
  • Hello Beautiful, Sheep Dog, & Where Sweet Dreams Die: All three independent projects leveraged their festival screenings to land highly coveted commercial distribution deals.

For the upcoming 2027 edition, the selection committee is actively hunting for feature films, short films, documentaries, animation, and even unproduced screenplays across every imaginable genre. It is a rare, truly level playing field in an industry that is, frankly, pretty cynical these days.

If you are a screenwriter sitting on a polished draft or a director sitting on a finished cut, getting your work in front of this specific jury might just be the pivot point your career needs.

You can submit your project directly through the official BHFF Submissions Portal. Our advice? Submit early.

With the festival’s footprint expanding rapidly across Ovation Hollywood and Beverly Hills’ most elite hospitality partners, the competition for those coveted screening slots is going to be incredibly fierce. Don’t let your project sit on a hard drive gathered in dust.

Twitch Streamer Cinna Partners With Bang Energy to Kick Off Historic 31-Day “Cinnathon”

CORONA, Calif. — Let’s be entirely honest: streaming your entire life to thousands of strangers on the internet for 31 days straight sounds like a psychological experiment gone wrong.

But in the hyper-competitive world of Twitch, it is called a “subathon”—and it is currently the holy grail of audience building. If you are going to survive a month under a literal microscope, you are going to need an ungodly amount of caffeine.

Enter Bang Energy. The high-octane beverage brand, which operated under a new era of corporate backing after its acquisition by Monster Energy, has just pulled off its biggest creator economy play of the year. The brand has officially signed Twitch phenomenon Cinna as its newest brand ambassador.

The news dropped simultaneously with the launch of her highly anticipated, month-long “Cinnathon.” Her objective? Grind continuously for 31 days to officially become the most-subscribed female creator on the platform. It is an incredibly bold goal, and she is bringing a massive corporate budget along for the ride.

Cinna-selfie

For those who do not spend their evenings lost in the “Just Chatting” directories, Cinna is a force of nature. She is a two-time Sapphire Award winner for Best Female Streamer, boasting more than one million followers across her various social channels.

What makes her stand out is not highly polished, over-produced gameplay—it is raw, spontaneous, and often chaotic community interactions. To make the marathon broadcast watchable, the partnership is integrating some pretty unconventional elements.

Viewers can tune into Cinna’s Twitch Channel to witness everything from creator collaborations and community-driven stunts to a fully customized, Bang-branded weight room built right inside her streaming space.

According to the brand’s official announcement, this is not just a passive logo-slapping exercise. Lauren Albano, General Manager of Bang Energy, emphasized that they were drawn to Cinna’s unapologetic, fearless ambition.

The integration will feature real-time product placements, branded endurance challenges, and custom giveaways featuring legacy flavors like Purple Haze, Peach Mango, and Blue Razz.

Frankly, it is a smart pivot for Bang, moving away from the old-school fitness influencer aesthetic of the mid-2010s and directly into the heart of modern youth culture and digital entertainment.

Whether Cinna can actually break the female subscription record without losing her mind remains to be seen. But by aligning themselves with a creator willing to push her physical and mental boundaries for 744 consecutive hours, Bang is proving that they still know how to generate pure, unfiltered noise.

Grab your popcorn; the next 31 days are going to be wild.

Bitget Wallet Launches ‘Assetback’ Cards, Delivering Rewards in Bitcoin, Gold, and US Equities

SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador — Traditional credit card rewards are a massive joke. You spend thousands of dollars just to earn a handful of airline miles that expire before you can even book a flight, or worse, some arbitrary retail points that are practically designed to be forgotten in a junk folder.

But what if your daily lunch run automatically bought you a fractional share of Nvidia, a sliver of physical gold, or a satoshi of Bitcoin?

That is the pitch behind “Assetback,” a new cashback program launched by self-custodial powerhouse Bitget Wallet. Unveiled on August 1, 2026, the feature completely reimagines their crypto-backed Visa and Mastercard, which are currently active across more than 50 global markets.

Instead of giving you a tiny trickle of depreciating fiat currency back on your purchases, the card automatically converts up to 3% of your daily spending into actual, portfolio-building assets. It is a simple, set-and-forget mechanism that quietly turns bad spending habits into a long-term investment strategy.

bitget-wallet-cashback-card

To make this work without forcing users to open traditional, highly restrictive brokerage accounts, Bitget is leaning heavily into tokenized real-world assets (RWAs).

The tokenized equities—which include heavy hitters like Tesla, Google, and the S&P 500—are powered by xStocks, a digital asset infrastructure framework developed by Payward.

By utilizing Backed Assets (JE) Limited’s 1:1-backed tokenized equities, the card bypasses traditional banking gatekeepers entirely.

Note, however, that due to standard regulatory headaches, this feature is explicitly unavailable to U.S. residents, who are redirected to standard stablecoin payouts under Kraken’s compliance terms.

The numbers behind this shift show that crypto-backed plastic is no longer a niche gimmick. According to recent market data, monthly crypto card payment volume across the industry surged to an eye-watering $656 million in May 2026, a massive leap from just $271 million a year earlier. Cumulative transaction volumes have cruised past $7.8 billion.

Bitget Wallet itself, which claims to serve over 100 million users globally, reported that its card transaction volume nearly tripled in the first half of 2026 alone as user spending patterns began to look identical to those of traditional debit card holders.

Frankly, using daily consumer spending as a passive, automatic dollar-cost averaging (DCA) tool is a stroke of genius. As Alvin Kan, COO of Bitget Wallet, pointed out, the structural plumbing to deliver fractional ownership on the fly simply did not exist until very recently.

Now, with the launch of the program globally, they have successfully closed the gap between daily payments and wealth building. It is a subtle shift, but it might just represent the most practical, real-world use case for tokenized real-world assets we have seen yet.

E.W. Scripps Company Completes $15.8 Million Acquisition of Lexington ABC Affiliate WTVQ

CINCINNATI, Aug. 01, 2026 — Local television consolidation is not slowing down; it is just getting more hyper-focused. The E.W. Scripps Company has officially finalized its previously announced acquisition of WTVQ, the ABC affiliate in Lexington, Kentucky, from Morris Network, Inc.

The price tag? A cool $15.8 million in cash. It is a seemingly modest sum in the grand scheme of media mergers, but the strategic implications for the regional market are massive.

This is not just another random line item on a corporate balance sheet. By picking up WTVQ, Scripps has managed to secure a coveted local duopoly in the Central Kentucky market. The broadcaster already owns the area’s prominent NBC affiliate, WLEX.

Now, putting both the ABC and NBC affiliate operations under a single corporate umbrella gives them unprecedented leverage over local ad inventory, shared production resources, and regional news distribution. Frankly, it is a textbook power play to lock down the Lexington market.

According to The E.W. Scripps Company, this acquisition is a key component of a much larger, highly calculated portfolio restructuring. To fund local cluster grabs like the one in Lexington, Scripps has been actively trimming the fat in other territories.

Earlier this year, the company completed the high-profile sales of WFTX in Fort Myers, Florida, and WRTV in Indianapolis, generating a combined $123 million in gross proceeds. Essentially, they are sacrificing standalone stations in saturated markets to build dominant multi-station hubs where they can easily streamline operations.

It is a survival strategy that stretches beyond simple cash sales. Scripps also recently executed a strategic station swap with Gray Media to expand its reach across the Mountain West.

As cord-cutting continues to chip away at traditional cable affiliate fees, maximizing the value of local over-the-air broadcast spectrum is everything. At the end of the day, Scripps is currently the single largest holder of broadcast spectrum in the United States.

Scripps-logo-lighthouse-blue-no-crop-no-Give-light

Whether this heavy regional consolidation actually benefits the average viewer in Kentucky remains a point of contention. Media watchdogs frequently point out that local duopolies often lead to combined newsrooms, shared reporting staffs, and ultimately, fewer unique editorial voices in the community.

But for a legacy media company founded in 1878—now managing a massive portfolio of 60 stations across 40 markets—it is a defensive consolidation game they feel they have to play.

In an era dominated by streaming giants, owning the local news and regional sports broadcast rights might just be the only way to keep the lights on.

Laysara: Summit Kingdom Launches Physical and Collector’s Editions Worldwide on PS5 & Switch

PILSEN, Czech Republic — Let’s be real for a second: modern physical game releases have become a total joke. Half the time, you drive to a retail store, hand over your hard-earned money, and open up a plastic case only to find a cheap paper slip with a digital download code printed on it.

It is frustrating, lazy, and defeats the whole purpose of physical preservation. Fortunately, Czech publisher Nejcraft is showing the big gaming giants how it should actually be done.

The company, alongside a tiny three-person development team at Quite OK Games, has officially launched the physical standard and Collector’s editions of their acclaimed Himalayan city-builder, Laysara: Summit Kingdom.

Laysara-Summit-Kingdom-Physical-Editions-Hero_16_9-compressed

Available right now on retail shelves across North America, Europe, and Asia, the game comes fully printed on physical media for both the PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch.

No massive day-one download codes required to bypass an empty cartridge. Even better? If you happen to be playing the Switch version on Nintendo Switch 2 hardware, the cartridge is built to automatically scale up to Full HD handheld resolution with upgraded textures right out of the gate.

Laysara: Summit Kingdom Physical Release Launch Trailer

For those unfamiliar with the digital version that launched earlier this year, Laysara: Summit Kingdom is not your average city-builder. You can forget about laying down flat suburban grids or managing commuter traffic.

Instead, the game tasks players with managing vertical, multi-layered societies on the sheer cliffs of the Himalayas.

You have to deal with complex logistical pipelines, manage a rigid three-caste society, and pray that a sudden, dynamic avalanche does not wipe out your entire mountain transport network. The final goal? Erecting a massive, sacred Summit Temple at the very peak of the mountain.

The absolute star of this physical release is the limited Collector’s Edition. Nejcraft went all-out here, creating a physical package that actually respects the player’s wallet.

The highlight is a custom, goofy 7cm Yak figure—modeled after the beloved, clumsy beasts of burden that transport goods across your cliffs in-game.

Here is what is packed inside the premium collector’s box:

  • An exclusive 7 cm Yak Figure
  • A premium, heavyweight Collector’s Box
  • The complete physical game on disc or cartridge
  • The official original soundtrack CD
  • A gorgeous 54-page physical Design Book showing early development concepts
  • A custom Sticker Sheet to customize your real-life gear

Additionally, the developers have teased a tiny, hidden artistic detail nestled somewhere within the box artwork itself for physical collectors to discover on their own.

If you want to grab a copy before the limited print run vanishes, you can order directly through the Nejcraft Store or secure one from various regional retail partners:

  • North America: Available via Videogamesplus.
  • United Kingdom & Europe: Stocked across regional Amazon portals (UK, FR, NL, IT, PT, DE, ES) as well as specialized local outlets like FNAC, GAME, and Alza.
  • Asia: Distributed widely via international import specialist PlayAsia.

It is refreshing to see a small indie team and a hands-on publisher deliver a complete, highly-curated physical product at a time when major AAA publishers are actively trying to kill off physical storefronts altogether. If you are tired of sterile digital libraries, this mountain-scaling puzzle box is well worth the shelf space.

Opel Refreshes “Yes, of Corsa” Campaign and Teases New Corsa GSE

RÜSSELSHEIM, Germany, July 27, 2026 — Let’s be completely real for a second: most modern car commercials are utterly soul-crushing. They’re either moody montages of vehicles navigating empty, wet city streets at night or tedious lectures on carbon offsets. But Opel seems to have missed that boring memo.

In a bid to inject some actual life back into the small car segment, the German automaker has launched a rather wild new chapter for its ubiquitous hatchback with the “Made for Fun” campaign.

This isn’t just a simple paint job and a new slogan. The campaign—which builds on the three-year-old, highly successful “Yes, of Corsa” branding—debuted with a hero spot that literally puts the Corsa on a rollercoaster.

It’s a bit of marketing theater, yes, but it serves a distinct purpose: highlighting the vehicle’s nimbleness in an era where cars are getting heavier and increasingly numb to drive.

According to the official announcement from Stellantis, this push is all about proving that German engineering doesn’t have to be sterile.

opel-yes-of-corsa-campaign

Under the Hood: Absolute Variety

Under the hood—or under the floorboards, depending on your choice of powertrain—the Corsa lineup remains surprisingly varied. While the industry is screaming at everyone to go full electric, Opel is quietly hedge-betting. You can grab this thing as a standard 1.2-liter internal combustion engine, a mild hybrid, or a fully battery-electric vehicle. Here is how the lineup shakes out:

  • The Electric Range: Standard EV models offer either 100 kW (136 hp) or a slightly peppier 115 kW (156 hp) setup.
  • The Hybrids: Available in 81 kW (110 hp) and 107 kW (145 hp) configurations, targeting those not quite ready to plug in.
  • Tech Upgrades: Includes glare-free Intelli-Lux LED matrix headlights, a feature usually reserved for much pricier segments.

But the real kicker of this update isn’t the eco-friendly commuter options. Tucked away at the bottom of the release is the confirmation of the upcoming Opel Corsa GSE. And frankly, the provisional specs on this hot hatch are enough to make any legacy enthusiast do a double-take. We are talking about a battery-electric pocket rocket pushing 207 kW (that’s 281 horsepower) and 245 Nm of torque.

Can Electric Hot Hatches Save the Segment?

For a car this size, 281 horsepower is bordering on the absurd. Opel claims a 0 to 100 km/h sprint time of just 5.5 seconds.

If those provisional numbers hold up through final homologation, the Corsa GSE could single-handedly revive the “hot hatch” category for the electric age. It’s a segment that many of us thought was dead, buried under a mountain of heavy electric SUVs.

“The new campaign takes customers behind the scenes of the final validation tests,” explains Rebecca Reinermann, Vice President of Marketing at Opel and Vauxhall. Whether a CGI rollercoaster actually translates to showroom traffic remains to be seen.

But in a market saturated with identical-looking crossovers, a bright Koral Orange hatchback with nearly 300 horsepower is at least trying to make driving feel like less of a chore. Unconventional? Maybe. Fun? Absolutely.

Prime Video Announces Cast Additions for Young Sherlock Season Two

If you were one of the 45 million people who burned through the first season of Young Sherlock, you already know the vibe: it’s fast, it’s stylish, and it’s decidedly Ritchie-esque.

Today, Amazon MGM Studios pulled the curtain back on the production for Season Two, confirming that the cast is getting a massive injection of prestige talent.

The newcomers include heavy hitters like Aidan Gillen—fresh off his time in Game of Thrones and The Wire—and the formidable duo of Olivia Williams and Indira Varma, both of whom have been making waves in the Dune: Prophecy universe.

The numbers behind this show are genuinely staggering for a new IP. Since its debut, the series hit number one in 95 countries, with 63% of its audience coming from outside the U.S. It’s rare to see a show land this hard on a global scale immediately, but the mix of Guy Ritchie’s signature pace and Hero Fiennes Tiffin’s take on the legendary detective seems to have struck a nerve with audiences tired of the traditional, slow-burn mystery.

The Cast Expansion

The addition of Sophie Skelton—who just wrapped a massive decade-long run on Outlander—is a smart move for Prime Video. She brings a built-in, fiercely loyal fanbase, which is exactly what you need to keep a show in the conversation for a second season. Coupled with Gillen’s penchant for playing complex, often antagonistic figures, the mystery in Season Two feels like it’s going to be far more layered than the origin-focused debut.

  • Aidan Gillen: Known for his roles in The Wire and Game of Thrones, he brings a gravitas that the show’s darker arcs clearly demand.
  • The Dune Connection: Both Williams and Varma are coming over from Dune: Prophecy, suggesting Amazon is leaning into their internal ecosystem of stars.
  • Director’s Return: Guy Ritchie is locked in to direct the premiere, ensuring that the visual “Ritchie-filter” remains consistent.

There’s a cynical way to look at this—that a massive casting announcement is just a way to keep the algorithm fed—but honestly? The pedigree here is undeniable. Gillen, Williams, and Varma are some of the most reliable actors currently working in the UK. Prime Video is clearly banking on the idea that if they build a “prestige” sandbox, the audience will keep coming back.

Production is currently underway, and while we don’t have a release window, the fact that they’re already dropping cast headshots suggests they’re aiming for a quick turnaround.

Given that Season One was a record-breaker for Prime Video, they’re going to be under immense pressure to prove that the first success wasn’t just beginner’s luck. My bet? The mystery is only going to get louder from here.
