The Tiny Thermal Plug-in That Spots 0.015-Degree Heat Shifts

Guide debuts its MobIR 3.0 series, pairing high-sensitivity IR sensors with visible-light cameras and an AI inspection assistant.

WUHAN, China, August 19, 2026 — Dedicated handheld thermal cameras have long felt like an unnecessary tax on contractors and field techs. You end up lugging around a bulky, single-purpose plastic brick with a terrible low-res screen just to spot a leaky HVAC seal or a fried circuit breaker.

The alternative—cheap smartphone attachments—usually meant dealing with laggy software and thermal noise so thick you couldn’t tell a hot pipe from a sunny spot on the wall.

Guide wants to kill off that compromise entirely. The thermal imaging manufacturer just launched its MobIR 3.0 series, a trio of compact, plug-and-play thermal cameras designed for iOS and Android smartphones. The standout feature isn’t just the miniaturized size; it is the sensor sensitivity.

Built around the company’s ApexVision engine, the hardware boasts a thermal sensitivity (NETD) of ≤15mK, allowing it to register subtle temperature swings down to 0.015°C.

The new line drops in three distinct configurations depending on how much detail your job requires:

  • ES2+ Dual-Vision: Features a 256×192 thermal sensor (upscaled via software to 512×384) running alongside a dedicated 800×600 visible light camera for image fusion.
  • ES2 Single-Vision: Uses the same 256×192 thermal hardware enhanced to 512×384, minus the optical lens.
  • ES1 Single-Vision: An entry-level 120×90 sensor upscaled to 480×360 for quick spot checks.

Per an official release from Guide, the flagship ES2+ model leans heavily on dual-vision blending. By overlaying real-time visible outlines onto the thermal feed—using Picture-in-Picture or Multispectral Image Fusion (MIF)—technicians can instantly see which specific wire or junction box is overheating without constantly flipping back and forth between their phone camera and the thermal view.

Spec-wise, the hardware holds its ground against traditional standalone inspection guns. The camera measures temperatures from -20°C up to 550°C with an accuracy margin of ±2°C.

A wide 56° × 42° field of view lets you sweep entire wall assemblies or vehicle engine bays without stepping back ten feet, while a rapid five-second boot time means you aren’t standing around waiting for sensors to calibrate.

The companion FocusIR app handles the heavy lifting on the software side, acting as a portable workstation. It builds on-the-fly analytical reports and includes a multilingual AI assistant that walks inexperienced users through basic diagnostic steps.

To survive actual job sites, Guide encased the unit in an aerospace-grade metal shell rated for 2-meter drops and IP54 dust and water resistance.

It is another sign that dedicated handheld tools are losing their grip on the trade industry.

When a $200 dongle in your pocket out-spec’s a $1,500 standalone thermal imager from five years ago, the choice for field technicians gets pretty simple.
