Los Angeles, CA — Let’s be completely honest for a second. Disney+ has been playing it incredibly safe with its animated lineup lately. We’ve had a non-stop parade of sequels, spin-offs, and clean-cut CGI projects that feel more like they were designed by a corporate committee than an actual human artist.
But things are about to get weird, dark, and wonderfully creepy. Disney has officially dropped the first trailer for its upcoming supernatural comedy-adventure The Doomies, and honestly? It looks like the spiritual successor to Gravity Falls we’ve been waiting a decade to see.
Launching on June 26, 2026, the series is a co-production with Paris-based Xilam Animation—the Oscar-nominated studio behind I Lost My Body—and it looks absolutely fantastic.
The premise of The Doomies is a classic “be careful what you wish for” scenario. Set in a quiet, moody coastal town, the story follows two best friends, Bobby (voiced by Max Mittelman) and Romy (Madison Calderon). When the duo accidentally opens an ancient, forgotten portal to an evil dimension, their sleepy village gets instantly overrun by terrifying, bizarre creatures of doom. Rather than just relying on cheap jump scares, the show balances these literal monsters with the very real, angsty “inner monsters” of being a teenager.
Rounding out the voice cast are Noel Gibson as Kim, Jon Bailey as Doug, and Zehra Fazal as Jenny. It’s an epic, fast-paced comedy that looks to blend genuine thrills with emotional weight.
Unlike typical streaming rollouts where platforms drip-feed content over several months, Disney is dumping a massive amount of content on June 26. Viewers will get all 22 half-hour episodes of The Doomies at once.
And if that isn’t enough, Disney+ is also dropping four exclusive, companion short-form episodes: “Doug Unfiltered,” “Ghosted By A Ghost,” “Creepy Crepe,” and “What Is That Thing?“
To give you a better idea of who is running the show behind the scenes, here is a quick breakdown of the creative powerhouses steering this project:
| Role | Name(s) | Key Past Projects / Pedigree |
|---|---|---|
| Co-Creators | Andrés Fernandez, Pozla (Rémi Zaarour), Henry Gifford | Renowned indie animators and storytellers |
| Director | Andrés Fernandez | Directed all 22 episodes of the debut season |
| Producer | Marc du Pontavice | Xilam’s CEO and veteran French animation mogul |
| Animation Studio | Xilam Animation | Oggy and the Cockroaches, I Lost My Body, Lucy Lost |
Industry insiders have already caught wind of how special this project is. In fact, The Doomies has been selected as an official competitor at the prestigious 2026 Annecy International Animation Film Festival, which runs from June 21 to 27.
That’s a massive endorsement for Xilam, which was officially ranked as France’s leading animation studio for the five-year period ending in 2023.
Xilam has a long-standing history of high-end production, employing over 400 artists across Paris, Angoulême, and Ho Chi Minh, and previously working with Disney on projects like the Chip ‘n’ Dale reboot.
Specifically, the episode “Night of the Fishing Dead” managed to stand out from over 2,400 submissions globally to earn a screening in the competitive TV Films category.
With its gorgeous hand-drawn aesthetic and bizarre horror-comedy tone, The Doomies represents a refreshing change of pace for Disney+.
It feels like a project driven by genuine artistic passion rather than algorithm-chasing.
Whether you’re an animation nerd who regularly tracks the Annecy lineup or a casual viewer looking for some spooky, lighthearted comfort food this summer, mark your calendars for June 26.
Trust us, you won’t want to miss this trip to the dark side.
