Snapchat is officially keeping receipts on your daily routine.
The platform just launched “Place Loyalty,” a new Snap Map feature that ranks how often you visit specific locations compared to other users.
If you’ve ever wondered if you spend too much time at your local dive bar or a specific airport terminal, Snapchat is about to give you a medal for it—literally.
Snapchat, owned by Snap Inc., is a visual messaging app that has evolved far beyond disappearing photos.
Its “Snap Map” feature is currently one of the most-used mobile map features in the world, boasting over 435 million monthly active users.
By integrating real-world movement with social status, the app is doubling down on its ability to bridge the gap between digital interaction and physical presence.
The new system is simple: if you are in the top 25% of visitors to a location over the past year, you earn a badge. The rankings are tiered to trigger that specific dopamine hit familiar to any frequent flyer or gamer.
You can hit Bronze (Top 25%), Silver (Top 10%), or the coveted Gold (Top 1%). While it sounds like fun and games, it is a brilliant data-aggregation play.
For major brands and chains, the announcement notes that visits are aggregated across all locations.

That means every Starbucks you visit globally counts toward your overall “coffee pro” status.
- The Tiers: Gold (1%), Silver (10%), and Bronze (25%).
- Shareable Status: Users get stickers to showcase their regular status to friends.
- Chain Synergy: Your visits to any branch of a global brand contribute to your overall loyalty ranking for that brand.
Of course, the “creep factor” of location tracking is always lurking. Snapchat is quick to point out that your location remains off by default and your precise coordinates aren’t handed over to advertisers.
These loyalty rankings are only visible to you—unless you choose to share the resulting sticker. It is a clever way to make surveillance feel like a reward rather than a privacy trade-off.
Is this actually useful? For most, it’s just another digital trinket. But for local businesses, it’s a powerful organic marketing tool.
When a “Gold Tier” regular shares their status, they aren’t just posting a photo; they are providing a high-authority endorsement of that venue.
It turns the boring act of “checking in” into a competitive sport.
Ultimately, Place Loyalty is about making the mundane parts of our lives feel significant. Whether you’re a Silver-level airport pro or a Gold-tier regular at a hole-in-the-wall cafe, Snapchat is betting that you want to be recognized for showing up.
In a digital landscape where attention is the only currency that matters, Snap just found a way to tax your real-world movements.
