Netflix bids DVD.com farewell

Netflix has announced that it will be shutting down DVD.com later this year.

Netflix’s DVD.com is the legacy DVD rental service that allows customers to watch shows and movies at home

Why? Netflix said, “Our goal has always been to provide the best service for our members but as the business continues to shrink that’s going to become increasingly difficult”.

The first DVD shipped by the service was Beetlejuice on March 10, 1998, and has shipped over 5.2+ Billion DVDs in its 25-year existence.

The rental service’s most popular title is The Blind Side. The service also supported over 20 main genres and 530 subgenres. The service also received over 40 million unique subscribers over the years.

The service plans to ship its final discs on September 29, 2023.
